Sheila Renee Parker, author of the paranormal romance The Spirit Within, tells us all about her writing, her love for the art, and her curiosity for the paranormal.
Parker, who also runs a blog and is an internationally-acclaimed poet, shares that she started writing at a very early age. “It has always been a passion of mine that I simply couldn’t ignore.”
While she doesn’t have a writing routine, she does try and write as much as she can. She also shared with us that her favorite writing tip is to always write from the heart.
Parker isn’t too selective when it comes to her library. “I like to read every type of book out there,” she says. “By doing so, my perspective is kept open to other writing styles.”
However, she does have a favorite book. “Without a doubt, it’s Pet Sematary by Stephen King.”
She also shares that authors like Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Edgar Allan Poe influence her writing style. “Their dark, macabre writing styles have always intrigued me, especially with their ways of tapping into the human psyche.”
Parker delves more into the human psyche in her novel, The Spirit Within. The novel is a paranormal romance ideal for young adults. It tells the story of a college student named Cassandra Blakemore, who may seem to have the perfect life on the outside with her loving family and friends, but on the inside, she harbors a terror created by her abusive boyfriend, Raleigh Nichols, who quickly sinks his way deep into the bottom of the bottle. Cassandra’s emotional strength suddenly emerges but at a price as she’s faced with her worst fear. Battered and betrayed, she soon discovers hidden abilities while her own secrets unfold. As if levitation, telekinesis, and premonitions weren’t enough, what else is Cassandra Blakemore hiding? The Spirit Within is an intoxicating story with a unique supernatural twist.
As evidenced by her novel, Parker is also very much into the study of the supernatural. She often shares her expertise on the paranormal on her blog. She is an artist as well. “When I’m not writing, I’m either sketching or painting pictures. I believe it helps to keep my creativity flowing.”
She hopes that readers will be empowered by her novel.
“I hope that they learn to face their fears through life’s adversities and rise above to become a stronger individual,” she shares.
On that note, we asked her what she loved most about her readers.
“Everything! I absolutely love my readers! They’re all fabulous individuals, and I am ever so grateful for their support and kindness. They’re definitely the best!” she says. “I’m always on social media and on my website, so I am able to reach out to my readers all the time.”
Parker hopes that other writers who hope to someday be published will never give up. “Always write from your heart and never give up. The road to becoming published can be a lengthy one, but remember, things take time. Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
Parker is currently working on a sequel to The Spirit Within, and she’s very excited to share it to her readers. Read more about her and her novel on sheilarparker.wordpress.com.
